In the spring of 2006, The First Line had built up enough original music to begin recording a debut album. The ten songs that they decided would make up the album were recorded at Cavedweller Studios in West Seattle. Over the course of that summer most of the studio time was spent recording the instrument tracks. Sessions sometimes lasted as long as four hours, until everyone was exhausted (or perhaps occasionally restless and childish). To achieve a high energy in the recordings, most of the instrument tracks - drums, guitar and bass - were recorded all at the same time. At the time, even scratch vocals were recorded while playing, in order to duplicate the subtleties of playing on stage.
The final vocals and acoustic guitar tracks were recorded that fall and the mixing and editing, done by Philip Morgan, went on through the winter months. It was produced in a pure way that made for a raw and natural sound. For this debut, The First Line to recreate what might sound like an ideal live performance. First Flight is a true three-piece experience.
The artwork and layout of First Flight were also the result of The First Line's creative energies. The bird was first born in it’s original form back in 2003, before the band even formed. The mastering and replication was done in the early spring of 2007. Thanks to a year of hard work, good times, lots of help from our friends and fans, and a bunch of creative energy, The First Line finally released their debut album in early April.
